The Conflict of Choice
What is the state of a mind that needs to choose? Is there a moment of reality in choice? If I am completely aware of the psychological effects of choosing, do I not realize something about the self that is born of the need to discriminate. The conflict of opposing positions are entirely the result of my own inner turmoil, conditioning and misunderstanding. One cannot understand the reality of the moment by choosing, by creating the preferential. Only by looking directly, choicelessly do we actually see the birth of confusion and disintegration that is associated with choice as position or opposition. If you have an "opinion" that denigrates another or causes disharmony and conflict are you not the cause of that perception? Without the self of position and opposition is there conflict? Are you not yourself the the very person you seek to discredit or destroy? Whatever you perceive in others can only be the projection of yourself. You are the conflict and confusion that you see another. By the reaction of choice, one psychologically inflicts one's malaise onto the subjective illusion of one's choice.
A person can only have insight into self created illusion by being choicelessly aware. This awareness creates an atmosphere that is devoid of the emotional turmoil of having to take a "side" or to discredit or worship another. This state of mind means that one is totally in the moment. It is understanding that transcends the conflict of choice. The mind avoids being swept up in expectation and desire because one has not given into the conflict of choice. A person through choiceless awareness is able realize the the true nature of equality and unconditional love.
A person cannot avoid conditioned response because we are all conditioned by our experiences our culture and our beliefs. But we must realize that we are capable of looking beyond individual prejudice to understand completely the nature of self induced conflict. To be aware is to be totally free of a past of exclusion and demented prejudice. When one is free of this past then a person may experience extraordinary clarity which translates into action that is devoid of the reaction of a conditioned mind. All anxiety ceases and one is at peace.
