Intelligence and the Moment

We were discussing intelligence and what is it that determines ones "level" of intelligence. "S" stated, "that intelligence is mostly a learned aptitude or predisposition toward being able to think logically". He went on to say, "Intelligence in the traditional sense is empirically measurable and can be determined mathematically". "N" said, "I don't completely agree with you, there is an intelligence that cannot be measured". "It involves elements of the whole sphere of ones mental, physical and emotional state". N went on, "that to measure mathematically is limited by the one who measures and the means by which one measures". "Mathematically you are measuring according to a standard mean, which is necessarily incomplete and subject to the limitations of those who have established the mean".

N turned to to me and said, "L, I have heard you talk about intelligence and what it means to be intelligent". "What are your thoughts"? I replied, Firstly we have to understand what intelligence is and what it is not. Is intelligence knowledge? Is it a product of our accumulated experiences and of the minds ability to think and organize logically? Or is their a state of mind that goes beyond the known, the mere rote memory of facts and experiences. If the accumulation of knowledge and how we use that knowledge is intelligence then we are just second hand people. Because what we have accumulated is the old. We are constantly being brain washed by authority. Authority that teaches how to interpret what we experience. We are compelled to understand though those who know. What was once reality, a fact of the moment, has now become a concept which is constantly reinforced by an authority. It is the conceptual continuation of what was. What was, as concept, now replaces what is, the actual reality of the moment. So what we believe becomes de facto intelligence.

N, looked perplexed and asked, "What do you mean by de facto intelligence". Well it must be "establishment" or what we think we know to be true. A standard by which we measure. But intelligence in the moment is free of what may be established intellectual norms. It is free to look, without the baggage of the known. When you look without the known you inter a level of consciousness that understands that what is observed is in reality the observer. They are not separate entities. And so a new level of understanding is possible. Understanding that See's the ego self for what it actually is. The illusion of the defined and thus divided. And when this seeing takes hold it is possible to enter a state of vacuity in which all challenges to intellect are instantly and completely realized as a whole movement. Then there is no conflict, there is only the intelligence of total freedom. Freedom that is the dissipation of all referencing to what was. Out of this freedom the "original" is possible. The new and never before, which is the actual reality of the moment.
