Why Follow?

What does it mean to follow? Does it mean that we have given into the minds laziness? We want others to think for us, to discover and then convey. To follow is to be caught up in the ideals of others. Then we organize and create a purpose. But what does this do to us psychologically? To follow a path, teaching, or set of principles narrows our perspective. We stay a course because their is security in knowing. But it is the way of illusion, the illusion of thinking that we "know" and in that knowing our prejudice and egotism rears its ugly head.

If we can look at our own mind in such a way that is not an escape through justification, reconciliation or conformity then perhaps we shall discover something new that is untouched by the known. Fear invariably enters into the picture. Life is uncertain, we want that feeling of safety and security. But that is not the reality. To look directly at the reality of the moment, with acceptance, is to realize a new way of living. A way of living that does not take sides. That is free of the desire to conform to the Master, leader, priest, or government.

So, essentially we follow to escape fear. The fear that is self created by our desire to be self assured. We have to look directly at our own fear day to day moment to moment and must realize how fear shows its self in different ways though our desires. When we realize fear in the moment then it is possible to have understanding that transcends our desires and to be free from all fear. Not kinds of fear but the whole reality of psychological fear its self. Through this understanding it is possible to realize an aloneness that is without the accumulation of the known and with that the clarity to realize the true self.
