The Absence of Self
Because the conditioned mind is the programed results of the past, all challenges to intellect are met with the old. When a person is controlled by a consciousness that is conditioned then there can only be conflict and confusion. A persons conditioning creates the atmosphere for reactive thought. It is the experience of the past that tells us that the present must be categorized and dealt with as if it were a reappearance of yesterday. But each moment is the new and never before. The conditioned mind cannot comprehend this because it is seeking the security of familiarity and repetition. So one cannot see the truth of the moment only interpretation based on the past, a conditioned mind set.
To change or transform ones self requires that a person realize a state that is unconditioned. An unconditioned consciousness is not something that you acquire. It is rather revealed as one peels away the layers of conditioning that prevent one from realizing the true self. A self that has moved beyond the self defining nature of being labeled, classified and identified. It is to escape the bonds of knowing and being. The conditioned mind cannot realize the unconditioned it can only create the illusion of the ideal. It can define and conceptualize but it cannot realize the absolute truth of the moment. If one is in the absolute moment then there is no defined and identified self that knows. What is left is seeing and realizing the movement of duality within that which is and that which is not. The outcome is freedom that negates the old so the new can be realized.
All is simplicity, the stripping away of all that hinders. Stripping away all of minds reconciliations, excuses and attachments. One is left without a cause or a belief or anything that allows one to escape the truth of the moment. To "realize" is very difficult especially if a person is older. A lifetime of repetitive thinking has worn the brain down. It has lost its youthful inquiry and it sees only the old over and over again. It is its own reflection, its dying ability to go beyond what it has defined, its own self created limitations.
So many people live in self illusion. They have not the will to realize beyond self. The mind is constantly bombarded by an environment of commercialism, the drive to to be acquisitive. It is difficult for one to see the truth. Then there is the commercialism of spirituality and all those that want to sell you whats "beyond". It is all the same, a person wants to acquire. But you cannot acquire the illumination of the undefined. One can only negate and one day realize in the absence of self that which cannot be known.
